Haylie grew up dancing competitively in Minnesota where she trained most extensively in ballet, jazz and lyrical. Since moving to Colorado in 2010, Haylie has earned a bachelor’s degree from CU Boulder and fully immersed herself in the Colorado dance scene. Boulder is where she found her love for contemporary, and she is now pursuing a career as a professional contemporary dancer.
Throughout the years, Haylie has been a member of seven professional dance companies. She is currently the Co-director of Backbone Dance Company and is in her fourth season of dancing with Rogue Co. Dance Company. Haylie has taught workshops, intensives and weekly classes at fourteen studios across multiple states and has won many awards for both her dancing and choreography.
Haylie believes that a strong technical foundation is the key to any dancer’s success. While she loves to play with unexpected movement and improvisation, she has the utmost respect for the decades of work that have gone into each genre and knows the importance of the methods and terminology that have been set by our predecessors. Dance is ever-changing, and pushing boundaries to find something new is always a goal, but Haylie feels that it’s a dancer’s duty to thoroughly study foundation in addition to exploring their own, unique movement. She encourages her students to use this combination of structure and experimentation in their dancing.
